Depart to enjoy the city tour of Chennai visiting Fort St. George – The construction of this fort started as early as 1650. It was often attacked by Indian and French forces yet it continued to expand. Today, the old buildings in Fort St. GEORGE house the Tamil Nadu Secretariat, the legislative assembly and St. Mary’s church. Mylapore – One of the most important localities of Madras is Mylapore, where the famous Kapaleeswar temple, the tank, market area and old Brahmin residential houses are situated. Mylapore is a unified complex and is best viewed as        such. Marina Beach – The marina, almost 13 kms long, is a wide sandy stretch,                            with a drive along it, fringed with palms and casuarinas. San Thome Cathedral – Is associated with the apostle, St Thomas. It is believed that he was martyred on what is called St. Thomas’. It is believed that he was martyred on what is called St. Thomas’ Mount and his remains were enshrined in this church.

Kanchipuram, known as the Golden City of a Thousand Temples, and one of India's seven sacred cities. The city gained fame after the third century AD, when it became a seat of learning and a prominent Buddhist centre, and was successively, capital of the kingdoms of the Pallavas, Cholas and Rajas of Vijayanagar. 
The temples and gopuram (tower) they left behind are exquisite reminders of the beauty of Dravidian architecture, from the simplicity of the Pallavas’ 7th century Kailashnath Temple through to the Vijayanagar Empire’s 16th century Ekambareswarar Temple, which covers nine hectares, has a 164 ft high gopuram, a 1000-pillared hall and a sacred mango tree said to be 3500 years old.   Kanchipuram is also famous for its beautiful hand-woven silk.
In the town of Kanchipuram you will have some free time to explore the local markets for renowned for the beautiful silk.

After breakfast check out the hotel and drive to Tiruvannamalai, on arrival transfer to the hotel, after refreshment visit, Arunachaleswara temple, this temple is one of the most important temples located in the Arunachala Hills of Thiruvannamalai. The temple dedicated to one of the several forms of Lord Shiva that is Arunachaleswarar, is considered one of the holy elements or Panchabhoota. RamanaAshram, dedicated to Saint Ramana who is said to have attained Samadhi at this place. This ashram displays all the important information, philosophies, teachings and facts related to the life of MaharshiRamana. Seshadri Swamigal Ashram, Close to the Ramana Ashram is the sacred spot of SeshadriSwamigal Ashram, which is dedicated to the popular 20th century Saint SeshadriSwamigal who used to display his mystical powers during that time in order to bless the devotees who attended his Ashram.

After breakfast drive to Pondicherry, ruled by the French for 300 years, today Pondicherry stands as a living epitome of French culture in India. Before arriving at Pondicherry, take a brief stop to visit the community of Auroville, a unique experiment in human unity and international living. Auroville was founded in 1968 by a French national who was a follower of local spiritual visionary, Sri Aurobindo. Today Auroville is an international community, with a population of some 50,000 people from 43 different countries. The city is centred around Matrimandir, ‘Temple of the Mother’, the geographical and spiritual heart of the community. Take a walk to the Matrimandir, observing the eclectic mix of people here. [entry to Matrimandir is not allowed] This evening enjoy the leisure walking around the small town and exploring the mix of French and Tamil architecture and culture in the region

Chidambaram: Is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located in the heart of the temple town of Chidambaram, Tamil Nadu).The temple , 78 km south of Pondicherry and 235 Km from Chennai, the capital of Tamil Nadu state of south-eastern India. The Sangam classics refer to Viduvelvidugu Perumtaccan, respected clan of traditional Vishwakarmas, as being the chief architect of the temple renovation.

Gangaikondacholapuram: Gangaikonda Cholapuram Temple is an architectural work of genius. Located at Thanjavur (Tanjore) in Tamil Nadu, Gangaikondacholapuram can be reached easily through regular buses that are available from the main towns and cities of Tamil Nadu. In the early 11th century, the temple got built by Rajendra Chola, who was the son and successor of Rajaraja Chola.

Darasuram, Airavateeshwarar temple is a replica of Tanjore Big temple but smaller in size. Darasuram temple was constructed by Rajaraja Chola  II  in the 12th century. This temple is a store house of  art work. One can see magnify cent work of  art and the finely  chiseled work on each and every stone, carved  to perfection. Even the steps leading to the temple has a story to tell.  The ceiling of the temple has exquisite carvings. Minute work on the pillars fills the mind with awe and fascination.

After breakfast check out the hotel and drive to Tanjore. On arrival transfer to the hotel. After refreshment take a sightseeing tour of the city visiting Brihadeshwara temple built by Raja and is termed as the crowning glory of Chola temple architecture and falls under the World Heritage sites. Thanjavur Palace, which was constructed in 1550 with huge corridors, spacious halls, observation and arsenal towers. SaraswatiMahal Library –housing some of the most important oriental manuscripts collections in India. Established around 1700 AD, the library contains a collection of over 44,000 palm leaves, and paper manuscripts in Indian and European languages. After visit return to the hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

After breakfast, check out the hotel and drive to Madurai. En route visit Trichy; the most famous landmark of this bustling town is the Rock Fort Temple, a spectacular monument perched on a massive rocky outcrop. The Sri Ranganathanswami Temple is one of the largest and most interesting temple complexes in India, built on an island in the middle of the Cauvery River and covers a staggering 2.5 sq km followed by a visit to Jambukeshwara temple. Later proceed to Madurai.

Day 9 MADURAI ( B )

After breakfast, visit the Meenakshi Sundareshwar, one of the largest temple complexes in India built between the 16th and 18th centuries. Apart from the estimated 33 million sculptures there, the temple is absolutely absorbing with the endless rounds of ceremonies, prostration of countless devotees and glittering market stalls.

In the Morning after breakfast checkout the hotel and drive Rameshwaram. On arrival, transfer the hotel. Rameshwaram often referred to as the ‘Island of Prayer’, and also considered to Varanasi of the South this major pilgrimage centre is on an island in the Gulf of Mannar. Most of the town’s places to stay and eat are cluttered around the Ramanathaswamy Temple, built in the 12th century AD, the temple with its awe-inspiring corridors, and the longest in India. Ramanathaswamy Temple, lies on the eastern side of the island, having different types of corridors and sculptured pillars on both the sides. Adam’s Bridge (Ram Setu) the name given to the chain of reefs, sandbanks and islets that almost connects Sri Lanka with India. According to legend, this is the series of stepping stones used by the monkey army, led by Hanuman to cross the ocean in a bid to rescue Sita from the clutch of Ravana. Dinner and overnight at the hotel in Rameshwaram.

After breakfast, checkout the hotel and drive to Kanyakumari. On arrival transfer the hotel. Watching sun set from here is the big attraction, especially on the full moon day in April, when it’s possible to see both the setting sun and rising moon on the same horizon.

Other attractions are Kumari Amman Temple, Gandhi Mandapam and Vivekananda Memorial. In the evening enjoy the wonderful view of Sunset from Murugan Kundram hills;

Later visit Tiruparankundram Murugan Temple, Palamuthirsolai Murugan Temple. Also visit the Tirumal Nayak’s Palace; a highly decorative monument. Its enormous roofed arcade supported by 48 – foot high stone pillar, still stands.  In the evening visit the famous Meenakshi Sundareshwar Temple to attend the Aarti (Prayers) witnessing interesting rituals and ceremonies.
